What Is the 8th Pay Commission?

The 8th Central Pay Commission has been constituted by the Government of India to review and make recommendations relating to the pay, allowances, pension and other service conditions of Central Government employees.

The Commission was formally constituted through a notification dated November 3, 2025 and has been given 18 months to submit its report.

The Union Cabinet had earlier approved the Terms of Reference of the Commission. The Government stated that the Commission would examine matters including the existing emolument structure, benefits and working conditions, while also considering economic conditions and fiscal prudence.

What Is the Fitment Factor?

The Fitment Factor is one of the most important terms being discussed in relation to the 8th Pay Commission.

For estimation purposes, a simple calculation can be represented as:

Revised Basic Pay = Current Basic Pay × Fitment Factor

For example, if a particular Fitment Factor is selected in the calculator, the tool applies that factor to the entered Basic Pay and calculates the estimated Revised Basic Pay.

However, the final Fitment Factor for the 8th Pay Commission has not been officially announced.

Therefore, figures such as 2.00, 2.25, 2.50, 2.57, 3.00, 3.83 or 4.00 should not be treated as officially approved Fitment Factors.
